Borobudur or Barabudur is a 9th century Mahayan Buddhist Temple in Magelang, Central Java, Indonesia. Approximately 40 kilometers (25 miles) northwest of Yogyakarta. Borobudur is located between two twin volcanous, Sundoro-Sumbing and Merbabu-Merapi and two rivers, the Progo and The Elo. Borobudur temple was built in the 9th century by shylendra dynasthy. the construstion estimated to have taken 75 years.

borobudur was found in 1814 by sir Thomas Stamfort Raffles. in indonesian leanguage, Temple means Candi, so Borobudur Temple is Candi Borobudur. Borobudur from two word, boro and budur,. Boro means mounestery and budur means hill, so borobudur means mounestery in hill. 

borobudur is still used for pilgrimage. once a year, buddhist people in indonesia celebrate vesak. vesak is national holiday in indonesia. the ceremony is centered in three buddhist temple by walking from mendut to pawon and finishing at borobudur.

the architecture of borobudur temple are 3 part. there are kamadhatu, Rupadhatu, and Arupadhatu.
